University of Cologne Offers Scholarships for its Doctoral Program 2009

The Cologne Graduate School in Management, Economics, and Social Sciences (CGS) of the WiSo-Faculty offers a three-year doctoral program to outstanding students holding a Master’s degree (or German Diploma or equivalent) in Management, Economics and Social Sciences.

About the Program:
The course program will start in October 2009. During the first year, students will take part in courses on multidisciplinary methods and theories and subject-specific courses. During the second and third year, students mainly conduct research and work on their thesis. Students are encouraged to spend one term abroad.

Qualifications:
The CGS is looking for excellent students who are close to finishing their Master’s degree (or German Diploma or equivalent) and who count among the top 10% of graduates in their faculty. The teaching language of the program is English.

Scholarships:
For excellent students with a Master’s degree (or German Diploma or equivalent), the CGS offers a limited number of scholarships (1,200 Euro per month). The maximum duration of a scholarship is three years. Scholarships will start in October 2009. The grant is tax-free and there are no tuition fees to be paid.

The CGS also encourages international students with a master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Management, Sociology, Psychology, Political Sciences and related fields to apply. Doctoral positions starting October 2009.

The Ruhr Graduate School in Economics (RGS Econ) is a three-year PhD program initiated and founded by three universities of Germany’s Ruhr Area - the University of Bochum, the Technical University of Dortmund and the University of Duisburg-Essen - as well as by RWI Essen, one of Germany’s leading economic research institutes. The research environment at the RWI Essen allows the students to participate actively in policy consulting and to establish contact with policy decision makers.

About the Program:
The program provides postgraduate education in all relevant fields of modern economics, covering theoretical and empirical methods in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, labor economics and industrial economics.

SCHOLARSHIPS:
The RGS Econ offers a number of PhD Scholarships (1300 Euro per month, approx. 1700 USD) available for students who will commence their studies in 2009. The maximum duration of a scholarship is three years and it’s tax-free. The program is free of tuition fees.

Qualifications:
The RGS Econ is looking worldwide for applicants with an excellent academic record and a Master, Diploma or equivalent degree in economics or related fields. A strong background in quantitative methods is necessary for a successful application. The language of the program is English. Hence, a good command of English is a prerequisite. The RGS Econ wants to attract high-level students, who conduct research at an internationally competitive level and finish their dissertation thesis within three years.
