the Departments of Biosciences and Nutrition (BioNut) and Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, SWEDEN.
Two 2 year postdoctorial positions (with a possibility for extention) are available in a basic research project at the interface of endocrinology and immunology. The project is jointly run by professors Sam Okret (BioNut) and Mikael Jondal (MTC). It concerns the role of glucocorticoids (GC) in two basic areas: the involution of the thymus gland, leading to a defect cellular immunity in the elderly, and the development of autoimmune diseases, in particular atherosclerosis (AS) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
The project requires competences in one or more of the following areas: molecular biology, molecular genetics and animal care and cellular immunology, in particular autoimmunity and dendritic cells.
The project is supported by the EU and will be performed in context of a collaborative network of participants that each contribute their special complementory expertize.
The Karolinska Institute (KI) in Stockholm is the largest unit for life sciences in Sweden and contribute around 40% of the national scientific output. KI (http://www.ki.se) consists of a large number of research groups that are organized into departments and research centers and supported by a number of core facilities offering an up-to-date biomedical research infrastructure.
The applicants should have a PhD degree (not more that 3 years from the expected starting date) and a strong background in one or more of the areas indicated above. He/she should be fluent in spoken and written english. References are required.
