Excellent postgraduate research degree (PhD / MD) opportunities in a leading (RAE 6*) department.

The Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol, one of the UK’s leading institutions for epidemiology and health services research, is inviting applications from outstanding, highly motivated graduates with good honours or Masters degrees in relevant disciplines for PhD studentships tenable from October 2009. Projects in statistics, epidemiology, human genetics, bioinformatics, economics, sociology, and psychology applied to medical and/or clinical issues are encouraged.

Research areas include: quantitative and qualitative health services research; aetiological, genetic, lifecourse, clinical, nutritional and cancer epidemiology; effectiveness and acceptability of health
services/care; health/illness/disability in older age.

A variety of potential studentships are available, including University of Bristol Postgraduate Research Scholarships; Wellcome Trust 4-year PhD studentships in Molecular, Genetic and Lifecourse Epidemiology; MRC Causal Analyses in Translational Epidemiology Studentships; and Overseas Scholarships.

The closing date for receipt of applications in the Department is 6th February 2009.
