USA: Postdoctoral Scholars in Statistical Genetics, University of Chicago

Applications are invited for postdoctoral scholar positions in Dr. Mary Sara McPeek’s Statistical Genetics group in the Departments of Statistics and Human Genetics at the University of Chicago.

A suitable applicant will hold a PhD in statistics or biostatistics. Candidates with PhDs in genetics, molecular biology or other related areas who have substantial statistical and computational expertise are also encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate outstanding potential for interdisciplinary quantitative research.

Initial appointment would be for one year, with the option to renew for up to three years. Positions are available immediately.

There is a wide range of possible projects. One broad area of interest is development of statistical methods for mapping complex traits. Within this broad area, sub-areas of major interest include development of statistical methods for (1) association mapping of quantitative and qualitative traits in human populations, (2) complex trait mapping in an isolated founder population with a large inbred pedigree, (3) analysis of copy number variation, and (4) identification of polymorphisms that explain a linkage or association result. The University of Chicago is extremely strong in the research areas related to this position. There are possibilities for close collaboration with a number of leading empirical groups including groups studying human variation and complex disease mapping. There is also a strong community in statistics in general, and statistical genetics in particular.
