PhD Student Fellowship in System Neuroscience, Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), Barcelona, Spain


A PhD student fellowship (FPI) in the field of System Neuroscience is availabe with Dr David Robbe at the IDIBAPS (Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer ), Barcelona Spain. The preferred starting date is september/october 2009. However deadline for application is 31st of January 2009 and candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Evaluation and interviews will start immediately.

The project will aimed at understanding the effect of cannabinoids on thalamocortical network activity and oscillations. Student will be trained to advanced in vivo electrophysiological recording methods (silicon probes, tetrodes) in rodent, pharmacoly, behavior and advanced data analysis. Because of the multi-disciplinary nature of the project, applicants with diploma or BSc in Biology, Physics or Mathematics are encouraged to apply.

The position is offered for 4 years. The salary is according to spanish standard. During their thesis, successful candidate will also have the possibility to perfrom a short-term fellowship (6 month) in a foreign laboratory.
