France: Postdoctoral Position in Surface Discharges Used as Plasma Actuator for Airflow Control Applications, University of Poitiers, France

Surface discharges used as plasma actuator for airflow control applications

A post-doctoral position of 12 months is proposed from September 2009 at Laboratoire d’Etudes AĆ©rodynamiques, UMR 6609 CNRS, University of Poitiers, in the Electrohydrodynamic group. It deals with airflow control by plasma actuators.

The candidate will have to investigate different types of surface plasma discharges in quiescent and moving air at atmospheric pressure, and to develop specific measuring techniques to diagnostic the plasma and the associated electric wind. In fact, the experimental works conducted will deal with the electromechanical characterization of conventional and new plasma actuators such as large-scale extended plasmas, wall jets, plasma vortex generator. This will consist of pointing out the electrical behaviour of the different discharges, their mechanical effectiveness and the underlying electric wind dynamic.

These experimental works will be conducted within the framework of a European project (Plasmaero, FP7-AAT-2008-RTD), which seeks to demonstrate how surface discharges and spark discharges could be used to control aircraft aerodynamic flow. The Electrohydrodynamic group of University of Poitiers is well-known all over the world for its works on plasma actuators applied to airflow control (about 30 papers on this topic in international journal since 2000). The candidate will work in collaboration with recognized European partners. She (He) will benefits of a dynamics and favourable environment to
develop personal skills.

The candidate will have to be a specialist of non-thermal plasmas, knowledge in fluid mechanics and flow control are not prerequisite but would be appreciated.

The annual salary is of about 22 k€ (net salary)
